Which YouTube videos can Maho analyze?

Maho retrieves available Japanese captions from a YouTube URL. The video needs an accessible Japanese caption track, supplied by its creator or generated automatically. Caption settings and platform availability affect whether captions can be retrieved.

This feature works from captions; it does not transcribe the audio of every video. Automatic captions may misrecognize names, dialects or overlapping speech. Compare the text with the original video before studying it.

Turn a video you enjoy into a Japanese study guide

In a restaurant video, いらっしゃいませ。 shows how staff welcome customers. A line such as コーヒーをください。 introduces をください when asking for something. The video supplies the situation; the analysis explains how the sentence works.

  1. Choose an interesting video with Japanese captions and copy its YouTube URL.
  2. Select YouTube as the analysis source in Maho, paste the URL and retrieve the captions.
  3. Start with a short passage, check the text against the video, then explore translations, readings, vocabulary and grammar.
  4. Save unfamiliar words and useful sentences. Ask Maho AI about tone, omitted information or a phrase you do not understand.

Use the original audio alongside Japanese read-aloud

The original video provides the speaker’s pace, pauses and setting. Maho’s Japanese read-aloud helps you repeat words and examples, after which you can return to the video to check the actual delivery. App-generated audio is separate from the speaker’s original recording.

If Japanese captions cannot be retrieved, choose another video. If you already have a Japanese transcript you are entitled to use, paste it as text instead. A retrieval failure does not mean the video contains no Japanese.

Questions

Can I analyze a YouTube video without captions?

This source currently requires accessible Japanese captions. It cannot guarantee analysis of a video without captions. If you have a Japanese transcript, use the text source.

Can I study with automatically generated captions?

Yes, but compare them with the video first. Correct recognition errors before studying so you do not learn a caption mistake as correct Japanese.

What kind of videos should a beginner choose?

Choose short clips about familiar topics with clear speech and Japanese captions. Study one passage at a time and use N5 or N4 lessons to build the grammar foundation you need.
