Maho offers vocabulary and grammar lessons for JLPT N5, N4, N3, N2 and N1. Word cards combine illustrations, kana, romaji, translations and example sentences. Grammar material explains structures, meanings and situations, alongside exercises and progress tracking.
Start with N5 if you are new to Japanese. If you have studied before, begin at your current level and return to earlier material when needed. Levels organize the material; you do not have to finish every card before reading something you enjoy.
Learn vocabulary through illustrations and examples
For example, 自転車(じてんしゃ) means “bicycle.” In 自転車で行きます。, meaning “I go by bicycle,” で marks the means of transport. Use the picture to learn the meaning, listen to the reading, then check its use in the sentence.
Tap words or sentences to hear Japanese read-aloud, or use continuous playback and repetition in lessons. Signing in saves your place, and reviewing words by familiarity helps you focus on what you still need to learn.
To compare courses, personal cards and AI analysis, read our vocabulary app guide. If you are starting kana, explore our kana apps and games guide.
Grammar needs more than a translated label
Consider 〜だけ, often meaning “only.” In 水だけ飲みました。, “I drank only water,” だけ follows 水 and limits what was drunk. Seeing the pattern in a sentence makes its use clearer than memorizing an English label alone.
Check your understanding with exercises, then ask Maho AI to compare similar patterns or give another example. The lessons can support JLPT preparation, but do not guarantee a score and are not an official exam question bank.

Can a complete beginner use Maho?
Start with N5 vocabulary and grammar, using readings and examples. Kana and romaji support reading; as you learn kana, rely increasingly on Japanese readings.
Should I start with lessons or text analysis?
Lessons build foundations in order. Analysis helps you read Japanese that interests you now. Use both: when an unfamiliar pattern appears in your reading, return to a lesson to study it.
Will my lesson and review progress be saved?
When signed in, you can continue from your previous lesson position and choose words to review based on familiarity.
